'Past, Present, and Future Sanctuary' is a four-layer screenprint on 12" x 18" 100 lb paper, designed and screenprinted by Philadelphia artist Ash Limés Castellana. In addition to providing 2024 dates, the print is also a collectible artwork marking a special moment in Fleisher's history. Edition of 125.

About Fleisher Art Memorial (printed on reverse):
Since 1898, Fleisher Art Memorial has been making art accessible in Philadelphia.
The institution was founded by industrialist Samuel S. Fleisher as one of the nation’s first community-based art centers. Fleisher’s particular passion was art and its capacity to uplift the lives of all. Concerned for the welfare of his workers at the Fleisher Yarn Company, their children, and others who lived in the neighborhood, he began offering free children’s art classes hosted at the Jewish Union building near 4th and Bainbridge. Starting with drawing and painting classes for immigrant youth, his vision quickly grew more ambitious. The endeavor soon came to be known as the Graphic Sketch Club, an inviting and collaborative artistic space which catered to adults and children of all races and nationalities.
The club would later move to the 700 block of Catharine Street to meet the growing interest in classes. On this same block, Fleisher would go on to acquire the Church of the Evangelists, a basilica-style church inspired by the travels of Episcopal priest Henry Robert Percival and designed by the firm of celebrated Philadelphia architect Frank Furness. In Fleisher’s mind, art was on par with the uplifting capacity of religion, so it made perfect sense that he acquired such a thoroughly religious building as the sanctuary to serve as the intellectual and spiritual home of his beloved club. He called the space “an art sanctuary” and “a playground for the soul.”
After 50 years of growth guided by an ambitious and dedicated founder, the Graphic Sketch Club would take on a new name. In 1944, Fleisher’s will directed that the club be renamed the Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial, and that it be managed by the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Leaving the income from his residuary estate to the museum, he requested that these funds be used solely and exclusively for the upkeep and operation of the Memorial as a school or museum.
Since then, Fleisher Art Memorial has continued to expand, becoming an independent non-profit in 1983. Today, Fleisher Art Memorial provides free and low-cost studio art classes for students of all ages along with opportunities for emerging and seasoned artists to exhibit their work. Extensive art education and community-based programming also reflects the organization’s commitment to strengthening communities by developing, sharing, and promoting creative resources.
